What you pack for Camber Sands makes the difference between spending your first afternoon dashing to the shops in Rye and simply stepping outside.
Here’s everything you actually need.

Camber Sands has its own microclimate. One hour it’s warm and still behind the dunes, the next there’s a proper coastal breeze coming straight off the Channel.
A few essentials that earn their space in the case:
Nobody here is judging your footwear choices, and if you happen to leave the wellies at home, don’t worry. We’ll come to that.
What does a perfect Camber afternoon actually involve? A blanket in the dunes, sand between your toes, maybe a book you never quite get round to reading?
Pack for that version of the day.
The beach here stretches for miles in either direction, so comfortable footwear for the walk there matters just as much as what you wear once you arrive.
Here’s the bit that tends to surprise first-time guests: you can pack lighter than you think.
Every room comes with feather and down bedding, fluffy robes, and sustainable bathroom amenities, so the essentials of a proper stay are already sorted before you’ve even opened your case. Complimentary tea, coffee, and filtered water are refreshed daily too.
We’re a dog-friendly hotel, and Camber’s wide-open beach is about as good as it gets for four-legged guests.
A quick checklist:
We welcome dogs, and we’ll have a cosy bed and bowl waiting in your room if you let us know in advance. Dogs are also welcome in the Sitting Room, Bar, Terrace, and coastal gardens.
Our Head of Wellness has a simple rule for anyone joining a class here: comfort over performance. You genuinely don’t need special kit.
Classes run daily in our studio, The Open Space, and ‘wild’ on the beach itself when conditions allow, so it’s worth packing something you’re happy to wear on sand as well as on a mat.
Harry’s has that lovely, unfussy quality where you could turn up in beach layers or dress it up a little, and either way you’d feel entirely at home. French-inspired, hyper-seasonal, and built around whatever’s freshest that week, it’s the kind of place worth packing one slightly nicer outfit for.
Think relaxed elegance. A linen shirt, a good pair of trousers, a dress you can throw a jumper over once the sun dips.
Leaving the car at home? It’s entirely possible, and rather lovely too. High-speed trains run from London St Pancras to Rye roughly every hour, changing at Ashford International, with the journey taking just over an hour.
If you’re travelling by train, pack a little lighter and consider:
We’re always happy to help arrange a taxi with an hour’s notice if walking isn’t on the cards that day.
However you arrive, and whatever’s in your case, the moment you step out onto Camber Sands, time has a way of slowing right down. That’s really the only thing you need to pack for.
