Moonrise Yoga on the Beach: What to Expect from Our Event

Beach yoga in East Sussex has a loyal following among people who like their wellness with a sea view. Camber Sands gives it plenty to work with. The sands are wide and the dunes are tall and the sky seems to go on forever. Once a month we time an evening class to the full moon and it’s a night we all look forward to.

Beach Yoga Session

What is moonrise yoga?

Moonrise yoga at Camber Sands is a 90 minute vinyasa flow held on the evening of the full moon. Each session takes its name from that month’s moon so you’ll see a Harvest moon one season and a Hunter’s or Snow moon the next. The class is open to all levels and abilities. First timers practise beside a community of regulars who come back month after month.

Katie trained in Ashtanga and Vinyasa in Hawaii and teaches moonrise yoga with us each month.

The Camber Sands experience

The rhythm of the waves and the salt in the air give any practice here its own pace.

Full moon yoga on the East Sussex coast

Camber is home to the only sand dune system in East Sussex. When the flow ends you take a hot drink over those dunes and settle on the beach with the moon above you. Nobody rushes you and nothing else is on the schedule. The sky does the rest.

If you love this coast in its quieter light our guide to sunrise and sunset at Camber Sands shows what the beach does at either end of the day.

Wild beach yoga in East Sussex

Moonrise evenings sit alongside a daily yoga timetable. Classes run in The Open Space and some are held wild on the beach when the weather allows. That makes yoga on the beach in the UK something you can fit into any day of your stay.

What to bring

We provide all the yoga equipment. Bring yourself and something warm to wear on the beach afterwards because evenings by the sea cool quickly. Our guide to what to pack for a Camber Sands coastal break covers the rest of your bag.

Two practical notes. Participants need to be at least 12 years old and anyone who is pregnant should be at least 12 weeks along. Please tell the teacher at the start if you have a heart condition.

How the evening unfolds

Arrival and a welcome start at 5.45pm. The flow begins at 6pm and runs for 90 minutes. At 7.30pm the practice ends with hot drinks to carry over the dunes.

Book your class and dinner together and a Wellness Benefit takes 20% off your total bill. Reserve in advance to claim it.

Can non-guests attend?

Yes. Moonrise yoga is open to everyone and locals are always welcome. A room booking isn’t needed. You reserve your place on the class page and our team is on 01797 331 580 for any questions. If an evening is full or you’re booking a group email the team and they’ll add you to the wait list.

Upcoming moonrise dates

Moonrise yoga follows the full moon so a new date appears every month. Each one is listed on our What’s On page as it’s confirmed. The next evening yoga event in East Sussex on our calendar is Tuesday 27 October from 6pm to 7.30pm. Class tickets are £20.

Combine with a night’s stay

A night with us turns a lovely evening into a proper escape. We have twenty individually designed bedrooms across five room types and you can compare them all on our rooms page. The Garden room opens straight onto the coastal garden. After the flow and the dunes you walk back to a deeply comfortable bed.
