Camber Sands is beautiful at any time of day, but sunrise and sunset bring a special atmosphere to the beach. As the light changes across the dunes and shoreline, the wide-open sands become a peaceful place for an early walk or an evening stroll. Here’s what to expect and how to make the most of these golden hours.

If you’ve ever tried to photograph a sunrise or sunset here, you’ll know the light does something the rest of the coast can’t quite match. This is our guide to finding it, timing it, and actually capturing it well.
Camber Sands beach runs flat and wide with barely any obstruction, so the sun sits low and uninterrupted on the horizon longer than it does on most UK coastlines. Add in the dune system, the only one of its kind in East Sussex.
At low tide, shallow pools spread across the sand and turn into mirrors. Photographers who specialise in coastal photography East Sussex-wide often tell us Camber’s reflections are the best in the region, purely because the beach is so flat and the pools so wide.
Sunrise at Camber rewards the early riser; that’s most of the appeal. You’ll likely have the whole beach to yourself.
Sunset here shifts dramatically through the year, both in timing and in mood.
Whatever the season, the western end of the beach near the dunes gives you the widest, most uninterrupted view of the sun dropping into the horizon.
The evening doesn’t have to end when the colour fades from the sky.
Head back across the road to Harry’s for dinner, where the kitchen cooks with whatever’s freshest that day. Or settle into the Sitting Room with a drink from the bar and let the walk properly sink in.
Here’s the advantage of staying with us rather than driving in for the evening: you get sunrise too, without setting an alarm for a two-hour drive first.
Our rooms look out toward the coastal gardens and the beach beyond, so the light finds you before you’ve even had your coffee. Step outside, and you’re on the sand in under two minutes.
Curious what the light actually looks like here? Have a browse of our gallery, much of it shot by our own team on ordinary mornings and evenings. And if you’d like to check what other guests have made of their stay, our Google Business Profile reviews are a good place to start.
If this sounds like the kind of morning (or evening) you’ve been missing, come and stay with us.
